Prestigious aviation company Chapman Freeborn stood at the crossroads – their current website was slow and difficult to maintain, but they rather liked the way it looked and it had an established audience of dedicated users. In the end a more future proof platform became a necessity, so they wanted to take the opportunity to lift the brand, especially their Private Jet offering. More than anything they wanted to improve the user experience and make it easier for users to access the wealth of content on the site.
Their digital presence needed to evolve, the brand to elevate, but not at the expense of its users. The challenge was clear: create a sleek, luxurious and practical website.
Guided by data, it was a realisation that users preferred viewing the site on mobile. Once personas were established, this also backed up that we needed to ensure that the website was easy to navigate for users – these included Business Folk on the move, Personal Assistants, and urgent couriers. With all this in mind, we decided on designing a mobile optimised site that was practical on screens of all sizes.
With mobile as a focus, we investigated ways of optimising the menu bar. We concluded that placing the menu at the bottom of the screen rather than at the top, was far more effective for mobile users regardless of whether they are left or right handed. Content and quote requests are easily accessed within easy reach of your thumb.
Private Jet hire, Chapman’s luxury service for those who want to elevate their flight experience, needed a touch of VIP treatment as part of the redesign. We created a page with a real sense of grandeur, with the layout radiating VIP indulgence. Despite its unique layout, the page remained well within Chapman’s brand identity.
Chapman Freeborn’s new website was more than a refresh; it was a complete rebuilding of the user and admin experience that added gravitas to their offering. It launched to great fanfare and company-wide praise, all in perfect timing for Chapman Freeborn’s 50th year anniversary.
